Crochet Moss Stitch

This moss stitch is made up of just two basic stitches: single crochet and chains. It’s super easy because you crochet into the chain spaces in the previous rows. Working in chain spaces typically makes it quicker than working into actual stitches.

It creates a beautiful subtle texture that has no gaps and is also quite stretchy. When you add striping, you can see how each row works into the previous row so it is slightly overlapped.

Pops of Color

For this otherwise very basic and neutral blanket, I added bright colors and fun pom poms to the top and bottom border.

Adding just one stripe of each color in different sections was just enough to bring this blanket to life! The pom poms also added a fun unexpected element.

The pom poms were made with Clover pom pom makers for a very easy and quick pom pom. They are definitely the best pom pom makers I’ve ever used!

I simply tied the pom poms onto the edge of the blanket and snipped the excess yarns close to the knot. This makes this blanket spot clean only – you don’t want to run these pom poms through the washer!

Notes:

Written pattern is for a baby sized blanket.

To make the blanket larger, simply add in multiples of 2 to the beginning chain until desired width. Repeat Row until blanket is desired length continuing with the striping pattern.

For the moss stitch: Until you are familiar with seeing the chain one spaces from the previous row, it may be helpful to use a stitch marker to mark a few chain one spaces in order to easily see where they are when working the next row.

In the instructions, you forgot the chain 1 in the first row.
    Love the blanket. Thank you.

I’ve counted several times. Aren’t there 6 of each color of pompoms? 9 on each side, 6 of each color though. Thanks for the precious pattern. My niece is going to love it!!
