Corner to Corner Crochet
When you hear the term corner to corner (or C2C), you may think of the popular stitches that look like little blocks that you crochet in a diagonal fashion. I have a tutorial for that popular stitch here.
However, corner to corner is more of a technique/method/style where your crochet piece starts in one corner and ends in another corner. You are basically crocheting your piece in a diagonal manor by increasing both ends of a row and then decreasing both ends of a row to get your square shape.
There are many stitches you can use in a corner to corner fashion. Some other popular stitches you can use in a corner to corner style are the granny stitch and the moss stitch.
Crochet Silt Stitch
For this blanket, I am using the silt stitch in a corner to corner style to achieve the look of the blanket.
This blanket was a happy accident, as I was trying to utilize the lemon peel stitch in the beginning. I ended up doing a slightly different variation and it just so happened that there was a name for the stitch – the silt stitch.
The crochet silt stitch alternates single and double crochet – super easy! When building upon the rows, the single crochets lay on top of the single crochets and the double crochets lay on top of the double crochets.
This combination of stitches produce a subtle texture. Add a corner to corner style to it and it looks beautiful!

See instructions below to make a rectangular blanket along with a blanket size chart.
Dimensions: 36” x 36”
Abbreviations: (US terms)
Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, dc = double crochet, sc2tog = single crochet two together, st = stitch
Pattern
Switch color after every 33 rows.
Row 1: Ch 2, 2sc in 2nd ch from hook, turn (2)
Row 2: Ch 1, (sc, dc) in next 2 st, turn (4)
Row 3: Ch 1, (sc, dc) in first st, sc in next st, dc in next st, (sc, dc) in last st, turn (6)

Repeat Row 4 until you have a total of 66 rows. (Switch colors every 33 rows.) Each row will grow by 2 stitches.
You will now begin to decrease both sides to complete the square.
Decrease Row: Ch 1, sc2tog, *dc in next st, sc in next st, repeat from * across until last 2 st, sc2tog, turn
Repeat Decrease Row until there are 4 stitches left in the row.
Each row will decrease by 2 stitches.

Instructions for Rectangle Blanket
Row 1: Ch 2, 2sc in 2nd ch from hook, turn (2)
Row 2: Ch 1, (sc, dc) in next 2 st, turn (4)
Row 3: Ch 1, (sc, dc) in first st, sc in next st, dc in next st, (sc, dc) in last st, turn (6)
Row 4: Ch 1, (sc, dc) in first st, *sc in next st, dc in next st, repeat from * across until last st, (sc, dc) in last st, turn (8)
Repeat Row 4 until your blanket is the desired width. Each row will grow by 2 stitches.
Now, we will increase the length of the blanket.
Increase/Decrease Row: Ch 1, (sc, dc) in first st, sc in next st, *dc in next st, sc in next st, repeat from * across until last 2 stitches, sc2tog, turn
Decrease/Increase Row: Ch 1, sc2tog, dc in next st, *sc in next st, dc in next st, repeat from * across until last st, (sc, dc) in last st, turn
Repeat the last 2 rows until you have the desired length. Each of the last 2 rows should have the same stitch count in each row.
Decrease Row: Ch 1, sc2tog, *dc in next st, sc in next st, repeat from * across until last 2 st, sc2tog, turn
Repeat Decrease Row until there are 4 stitches left in the row.
Each row will decrease by 2 stitches.
Last Row: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc2tog (2)
Fasten off.

THANK YOU! I’ve been looking for a pattern like this–I like C2C but don’t much care for the traditional block stitch. It might have just moved up in the project queue!
Carolyn
I would like to know what the (2) (4) (6) (8) means after rows 1, 2, 3 and 4 on the rectangular blanket. First time trying the rectangular. Thanks for your help!

Hi Carolyn!
Those numbers are the stitch count for the row. So Row 1 should have 2 stitches, Row 2 has 4 stitches, etc.
