Crochet Pillows

Crochet pillows add a cozy homemade touch to your decor, especially in the colder months.

The construction of this pillow is very simple. First, you will crochet two square panels. Then you will crochet the panels together around a pillow form. You can also stuff it with polyfil or stuffing if you’d like but I find the pillow form gives a nicer, firm finish.

I found a 4pack of 14″ x 14″ pillow forms on Amazon for a good deal. They do come vacuum sealed, so I put mine in the dryer on low for about 20 minutes and they came out nice and fluffy.

Color Changing in Crochet

When changing colors for the front panel (from red to white and back to red), you can carry each color to the next row instead of cutting it. You will need two separate balls of red for this or you can use the inside strand of yarn and outside strand of yarn from the same skein. Each section of color will have its own skein/ball of yarn.

To do this method, after you change colors, simply drop the old color and continue on with the new color. Once you do this, you will see that when you get to the next row, you can simply pick up the next color you need without having to cut anything.

Color changing tip within the row: Pull through the yarn color you are changing to one step before finishing the last stitch. For example, when changing from white to red in this pattern, your last red stitch will be a single crochet. Before you pull through the last two loops on your hook to complete the single crochet, let go of the red working yarn and pull the white yarn through the last two loops. Then continue to crochet with the white yarn. This will give a cleaner look.
