Crochet Bobble Graph
For this pumpkin pot holder, I made two different graphs. They are very similar, the only difference is that one is more basic and the other version has two shades of orange and has a little more details, which requires more color changes.
If this is your first crochet bobble graph, I recommend starting with the pumpkin that uses just the one shade of orange and watch the video tutorial of the tree potholder I made. Although it is a different graph, it will walk you through how to read the graph and crochet along with it. I also show in that video tutorial how I’m doing the color changes with some tips and tricks.
Each square of the graph equates to 2 rows of crocheting for the potholder. The first row and odd rows are always single crochets across and the second row and all even rows are where the bobbles come into play. You won’t see the single crochets in between but they are necessary.
There is also a written out version so if you don’t want to read the graph or learn how to do that (because it can be confusing at first), you can simply follow the row by row written out pattern and you’ll get the same result.

Materials for Crochet Potholders
It is important to use 100% cotton yarn for these potholders. Unless you are using them purely for decoration, I recommend using the cotton yarn. It is durable and will withstand hot plates, dishes, pots, and pans.
I use the I Love This Cotton! brand from Hobby Lobby as well as the Knit Picks Dishie cotton yarn. Both are fantastic options for 100% cotton yarns with great color selections. I’ve never had issues with color bleeding or drastic color fading from use and washing. They are softer cottons to work with as well.

Bobble Pumpkin Potholder Crochet Pattern Overview
Using 100% cotton yarn and a 5.00 mm crochet hook, you will be crocheting two panels.
The front panel will be the bobble graph. You can either use the graph and/or the written out row by row instructions to make the first panel.
Next, the back panel will be made by crocheting rows of half double crochets until it is the same size as the front panel.
Using the same color as the back panel, you will single crochet together the front and back panels. You will also add a loop on the potholder as desired.
This is a straight forward project and can be completed in an evening or weekend.

Notes
There are two versions of the graph provided. A more simple version using just one shade of orange and a more detailed version using two shades of orange. There are quite a few color changes within the row for the second version.
The pattern written out below follows the graph provided. Each line goes through stitches needed to be made as well as the colors.
If you know how to follow a bobble graph, feel free to use the graphs vs the written instructions. If you would like to learn how to read and follow a bobble graph, I explain how to do that here with a different pattern I’ve made:

Dimensions: ~ 9″ x 8.5″
Abbreviations: (US terms)
Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, st = stitch

How to read this pattern
**Each “bobble” will be a bobble stitch and a single crochet stitch. For example, if the pattern reads “1 green bobble”, you will use the green yarn to make one bobble stitch and one single crochet in the stitch after it.
You will need to change colors within the row by method of your choice. For this graph, I separated my yarn so I had enough for each section of color without having to cut the yarn within the row. AKA ‘the bobbin method’.
Start each bobble stitch row with ch 2 and each single crochet row with ch 1.

Back Panel
Use orange or dark orange yarn

This should match the width of your graph panel. You can add or subtract stitches as needed.
Row 2: Ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn
Repeat until you have a total of 23 rows or until it matches the height of your graph panel. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Assembly
Hold panels together with the bobble graph on top. Use orange or dark orange yarn and single crochet together both pieces, start at the top right corner. Make 3sc in the corners. Before joining to the first st, ch 20, join to first st. Fasten off and weave in ends.
