Whether you are a beginner or well-versed crocheter, these textured dishcloths are so easy to make! Whip up a few or a few dozen! I think these will be your next favorite dishcloth because they are definitely mine!
I don’t know about you, but I love a good textured dishcloth. I made up these dishcloths in a snap with my leftover cotton yarns and they came out fantastic! If you know how to single crochet, you’ll have no problem making these easy peasy dishcloths too.
In the past years, I’ve made several dishcloths and washcloths for my home. I never tend to stick with one stitch for making them, because dishcloths are a great way to learn new stitches and patterns!

Dishcloths with Texture
Although I don’t always use the same pattern, I can tell you that I always love incorporating pretty textures into my dishcloths. You can find three other patterns I’ve used that have interesting textures here.
These dishcloths I recently made with some cotton yarns have a beautiful diagonal texture. I absolutely love how they look! Double up the yarn and they would make wonderful hot pads for the kitchen too!
The secret to the pretty textures is working into the back loop of the stitches. I’ve done this many years before but instead of working diagonally, I worked in rows. It wasn’t the best idea.
By doing that, it still offered me a pretty texture but I quickly realized it wanted to scrunch up like an accordion – especially after throwing it in the washing machine!
Working diagonally versus in long rows helps the shape of the dishcloth stay in a square rather than scrunching up in a rectangular shape. Honestly, I love it even more now that the rows are diagonal! It adds a whole other dimension.
Cotton Yarns to Try
When I began to crochet dishcloths, I would exclusively use Lily Sugar and Cream. It’s readily available in most craft stores and they’re a good price. However, I’ve used a handful of cotton yarns since and I want to share with you my favorites for dishcloths!
The first one is I Love this Yarn! that you can find in Hobby Lobby stores. (Be sure to grab some when they have 30% off all yarns – they have this sale pretty often!)
It’s a bit of a thinner cotton yarn (although it is categorized as a medium 4) and it is so soft! I love using it for washcloths and I even made my Talulah Top out of it! Since it’s so soft, I especially love using it to make washcloths for the bath.
Added bonus: the variety of colors they have to offer is amazing!
My second favorite is Dishie Yarn from Knit Picks. As far as I know, this one is sold exclusively online. I did a review on this yarn that you can read here.
To sum it all up, it’s not as rough as Lily’s Sugar and Cream, but it still has the great raw cotton feel to it. I love working with it and it holds up so well for dishcloths.
Another thing I really love about it is the rich colors I used did not fade even after several washes. Dishie Yarn also has a great array of colors to choose from and at a good price.
