Crochet Elf Ornament Pattern
Materials
Worsted weight yarn in tan, red, green, and white
(2) 6mm safety eyes
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Notes
Beginning chain does not count as a stitch.
Sc2tog is worked as follows: Insert hook into first stitch, pull up a loop, insert hook into second stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through all loops.
Hdc2tog is worked as follows: Yarn over, insert hook into first stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over, insert hook into second stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through all loops.
Finished dimensions: ~5” in height
Abbreviations (US terms)
Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, sc2tog = single crochet two together, hdc2tog = half double crochet two together, st = stitch(es), sp = space
Pattern
Use tan yarn.
Round 1: Magic ring, sc 6, join to first sc (6)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2sc in each st around, join to first sc (12)
Round 3: Ch 1, *2sc, sc, repeat from * around, join to first sc (18)
Round 4: Ch 1, *2sc, sc in next 2 st, repeat from * around, join to first sc (24)
Round 5: Ch 1, *2sc, sc in next 3 st, repeat from * around, join to first sc (30)
Round 6-13: Ch 1, sc around, join to first sc (30)
Attach 6mm safety eyes between rows 7 and 8 about 3 stitches apart.
Sew on nose between rows 9-10 with tapestry needle and tan yarn.
Sew a line to make the nose. Sew the same line repeatedly 4-5 times.
Sew on mouth with red yarn and tapestry needle.
Stuff with polyfil.
Row 14: Ch 1, *sc in next 3 st, sc2tog, repeat from * around, join to first sc (24)
Row 15: Ch 1, *sc in next 2 st, sc2tog, repeat from * around, join to first sc (18)
Row 16: Ch 1, *sc in next st, sc2tog, repeat from * around, join to first sc (12)
Stuff with polyfil until full.
Row 17: Ch 1, sc2tog around, join to first sc (6)
Fasten off and sew up hole.
Hat
Use red yarn.
Round 1: Ch 30, join to first ch (30)
Round 2: Ch 1, hdc in each st around, join to first hdc (30)
Change to green yarn.
Round 3: Ch 1, hdc in each st around, join to first hdc (30)
Change to white yarn.
Round 4: Ch 1, *hdc in next 8 st, hdc2tog, repeat from * around, join to first hdc (27)
Change to green yarn.
Round 5: Ch 1, *hdc in next 7 st, hdc2tog, repeat from * around, join to first hdc (24)
Change to white yarn.
Round 6: Ch 1, *hdc in next 6 st, hdc2tog, repeat from * around, join to first hdc (21)
Change to green yarn.
Round 7: Ch 1, *hdc in next 5 st, hdc2tog, repeat from * around, join to first hdc (18)
Change to white yarn.
Round 8: Ch 1, *hdc in next 4 st, hdc2tog, repeat from * around, join to first hdc (15)
Change to green yarn.
Round 9: Ch 1, *hdc in next 3 st, hdc2tog, repeat from * around, join to first hdc (12)
Change to white yarn.
Round 10: Ch 1, *hdc in next 2 st, hdc2tog, repeat from * around, join to first hdc (9)
Change to green yarn.
Round 11: Ch 1, *hdc, hdc2tog, repeat from * around, join to first hdc (6)
Fasten off. Sew up hole.
Use red yarn.
Round 1: Magic ring, ch 1, 6sc in ring, join to first sc
Round 2-3: Ch 1, sc around, join to first sc
Fasten off.
Close up last round with tapestry needle weaving the yarn tail in and out of the top of the stitches and cinching tight.
Sew ball onto top of hat.
Sew hat onto head of elf.
Ears
Use tan yarn.
Round 1: Magic ring, 6sc in ring, join to first sc
Round 2: Ch 2, dc, ch 2, sl st in same st as dc, sl st into next sp
Fasten off and leave tail.
Make two ears.
Sew onto either side of the elf’s head with the tops overlapping the hat.
