Crochet Tulip Applique Pattern

The crochet tulip flower applique is one of several spring themed appliques for the Spring Blanket.

These tulips took me a few tries to get right. I wanted them to look delicate and pretty.

That wasn’t an easy task at first! Especially since I was trying to make something that wasn’t too big for the granny squares.

I finally got the idea to do two tulips since they often grow in small bunches. I love how delicate the petals look and

Materials

Worsted weight yarn in pink/purple and green

F/3.75mm hook

Tapestry needle and Scissors

Notes: Beginning chain does not count as a stitch.

Petals will be made individually and separate from the stem/leaf.

Pattern

Petals
Row 1: Ch 6, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next 2 ch, dc in next 2 ch, ch 2, sl st in last st where last dc was worked. Fasten off.

For each tulip applique, make 6 petals (3 petals per tulip).


Stems
Use green.
Row 1: Ch 9, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in remaining st. Ch 10.
Fasten off.

For each tulip applique, make 2 stems/leaves.

Assembly – Use photo as a guide.
Each tulip flower consists of 3 petals. Sew together to make one flower. Sew flower onto stem/leaf.

Sew two tulips (flower/stem) onto cream granny squares for the Spring Blanket.

Crochet Granny Square Pattern

J/6.00mm hook
Tapestry needle

Scissors

Notes:

Beginning chain does not count as a stitch UNLESS otherwise stated.

Granny square will start with a circle and form into a square.

Finished square measures roughly 5.5” when using Knit Picks Brava Worsted.

Round 1: Magic ring, ch 2, 12 dc in ring, join to first dc (12)
Round 2: Ch 2, 2dc in each st around, join to first dc (24)
Round 3: Ch 3 (counts as stitch), (dc, ch 2, 2dc) in same st as ch 3, dc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next st, hdc in next st, dc in next st, *(2dc, ch 2, 2dc) all in next st, dc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next st, hdc in next st, dc in next st, repeat from * around, join to beginning ch 3
Round 4: Sl st to ch 2 space from previous row, Ch 3 (counts as st) (dc, ch 2, 2dc) all in same ch 2 space, dc across, *(2dc, ch 2, 2dc) all in ch 2 space from previous row, dc across, repeat from * around, join to beginning ch 3
Round 5: Repeat Round 4
Fasten off and weave in ends.
