Twisted Crochet Ear Warmers

There are so many variations of this crochet twisted ear warmer and it all has the same basic concepts.

You crochet a rectangle that is a few inches shorter than your head circumference and the height can be customized to your liking!

Sew the ends together in a ‘special’ way to achieve the twisted look and you’re finished.

I chose the moss stitch because it offers a tight stitched fabric while still being nice and stretchy. I also chose to make the height of the ear warmer around 6 inches so it covers most of my head.

Materials/Notes

Weight 3/DK/light yarn
I used Dover Street Supply Co. hand dyed yarn in Jack Frost and Knit Picks Brava Sport in Dove Heather
H/5.00mm hook
Tapestry needle and scissors
Measuring tape

You can make this ear warmer in worsted weight yarn as well. Size up to J/6.00mm hook and make the beginning ch ~6″ (even number of chains) and continue with the pattern until it is 19″ in length.

This pattern is for an adult size with a ~21″ head circumference. You can alter the size by making the length of the finished piece 2″ less than any head circumference and make the beginning chain (in an even number) more or less to make the width of the ear warmer wider or thinner).

Abbreviations (US terms):
Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, sk = skip, st = stitch, sp =space

Pattern

Row 1: Ch 34, sc in 4th ch from hook, *ch 1, sk 1, sc in next st, repeat from * across, turn

Row 2: Ch 2, sc into ch 1 sp from previous row, *ch 1, sk sc from previous row, sc into ch 1 sp from previous row, repeat from * across, turn

Repeat Row 2 until the ear warmer is 19″ in length.

Fasten off and leave tail for sewing.
