Crochet Cup Coasters
The best yarn to use for cup coasters is 100% cotton. It is durable, absorbent, and gives you defined stitches. Whether you are using this for a hot cup of coffee or an iced beverage, these coasters will be sure to withstand the elements when made with cotton yarn.
The finished coasters measure about 4.5″ in diameter. I found this to be the perfect size for all of my mugs. My slightly larger mugs fit onto the apple as well!
I also made pumpkin coasters and they are so adorable with these apple coasters! You can find the crochet pattern for the crochet pumpkin coasters here.
Pattern Overview
For this pattern, we will be using worsted weight, cotton yarn with a 4.00mm crochet hook. It is a smaller hook size than we would normally use for a worsted weight yarn, but I found this combination the best for a tighter stitch with no holes.
This pattern skill level is categorized as easy. Although, I think beginners would be able to make this coaster as well after mastering the bobble stitch.
The coaster starts with a magic circle/magic ring and the inner apple is made before switching to the main apple color. You can use a green yarn or red yarn depending on what color you want your crochet apple coaster to be.
For the border of the apple, I used a bobble stitch and I think it gave it the perfect texture for this cute apple coaster and gives it a raised edge to perfectly contain your drink.
Once the main apple is finished, you will use a small amount of brown yarn to sew on the seeds and make the stem. You will also need a small amount of green yarn for the leaf.
