Whether you are making this little sea turtle for the Ocean Granny Square Afghan or on its own, this applique is fairly quick to work up. Photos are included in the pattern for the shell as it may be easier to visualize some of the instructions.

Free Crochet Sea Turtle Pattern
Materials
Worsted weight yarn in dark green and light green
(I used Loops & Threads in Dark Forest and Fern)
G/4.00mm crochet hook
E/3.50mm crochet hook
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Pattern Notes
I have included photos in the pattern to accompany Rows 2-4 of the turtle shell.
Sc3tog: Insert into first stitch, pull up a loop, insert into second stitch, pull up a loop, insert into third stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through all loops on hook.
Abbreviations: (US terms)
Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, dc = double crochet, sc2tog = single crochet two together, sc3tog = single crochet 3 together, st = stitch, sl st = slip stitch,
sk = skip
Pattern
Shell
Start with the light green yarn and G/4.00 mm crochet hook
Round 1: Magic Ring, Ch 1, 10 sc into ring, join to first st
Change to dark green yarn.
Round 2: Ch 2, 3 dc all in first st, ch 2, sk 1 st, *3 dc in next st, ch 2, sk 1 st, repeat from * around, join to beginning ch 2. Fasten off.

Round 3: Attach light green color to any ch 2 space from previous round. Ch 1 to secure, 3 dc into skipped st in Round 1, *sc until you get to another ch 2 space, sl st into ch 2 space, 3 dc into skipped st in Round 1, repeat from * all the way around, join to first dc of the round


Change to dark green yarn
Round 4: Ch 1, sc all the way around, join to first sc, do not
fasten off. We will continue on with the head.

Head
Change color to light green and change to E/3.50 mm hook
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in next 3 stitches, turn
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in next 3 stitches, turn
Row 3: Ch 1, 2sc in first st, sc in next st, 2sc in last st, turn
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in next 5 stitches, turn
Row 5: Ch 1, sc2tog over next 2 st, sc in next st, sc2tog over last 2 st, turn
Row 6: Ch 1, sc3tog, fasten off
Legs
Use G/4.00mm hook and light green yarn.
Attach yarn 5 st to the right of the head.
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in st you attached the yarn to and into the next st , turn
Row 2: Ch 1, sc2tog, fasten off
Repeat starting at the 12th st to the right of the head.
Repeat starting at the 4th st to the left of the head
Repeat starting at 11 st to the left of the head.
*There will be 3 st between the head and the front feet on each side.
*There will be 5 st between the front and back leg on each side.
Tail
Use G/4.00mm hook and light green yarn.
In between the bottom feet, attach yarn (there should be 3 st on either side of
where you attach the yarn)
Ch 3, dc in same space, fasten off.
Weave in ends.

I think it should be chain 4 for row 1.
Unless this is created attached to the shell. The way it's written makes it seem like it's a separate element.
