Crochet Along Details
A crochet along (CAL) is where many crocheters all over the world join together to crochet the same project. For this crochet along, we will be sharing, motivating, encouraging, and asking questions in my Maria’s Yarn Friends Facebook group.
For this CAL, we will be crocheting a Dinosaur themed blanket. This blanket will be similar to my past themed afghans like this popular Christmas Afghan and Woodland Afghan.
As always, my crochet alongs are free! They will also remain free after the crochet along is over if you need more time to finish up, or if you simply want to make another OR don’t have time to start until a later date!
You will have the option to purchase the entire PDF in one file to download/print once the crochet along starts.
Timeline
The CAL will start Sunday, May 19th. It will run for 5 weeks, the last week ending June 16th where we will wrap up the blanket by joining the squares and adding a border.
Click here to sign up for the Dinosaur Blanket CAL.
You will receive an email once the CAL has started and each week thereafter when each new part of the pattern is released. If you are signed up for my regular email list, you will need to sign up for this CAL as it is separate.
Also join the Facebook group here! It’s not mandatory to join the CAL, but it’s fun to see everyone’s progress and a great place to ask questions and help each other out!

Hi I love this blanket I have a new grandson!!! Are the yarns available as a kit???
Thank you
Cheryn Rosenblatt
Anxious to start this afghan! My grandson loves dinosauers. Love the colors. Have signed up. Hope you have my email.
Michele
All signed up and yarn ordered. Can’t wait! My only question is: how strict are the hook sizes? I cannot find a 2.75mm hook. The closest I have is a 3mm. I’m hoping the 3mm will work.
Maria Weaber
They’re not super strict. A 3mm would work fine!
Jennifer Pionk
This is absolutely ADORABLE, Maria!!!

Hi Maria
Iโm really excited about this blanket. Iโm going to be making it for my great nephew. He is 3. Unfortunately
He has cancer. He has been having a rough time. I know this blanket will put a smile on his face.
Thank you
Maria Weaber
I’m sorry to hear that! This blanket will be such a great gift for him.

Hi, I am a new member to this website. What do we do with the CAL project when done? Do we ,as a group, donate to a hospital or children’s home?
Maria Weaber
Hi Linda! For this project, you can choose what to do with the finished project! A lot of crocheters are making it for a loved one.
Jessica Schinke
Not sure if I’m signed up yet. Thanks!

Hi Maria, I purchased the pdf when this first started. Luckily I printed it out right away. When I go to Ravelry, the pattern is not in my library or anywhere to be found in my account. I donโt understand this.
Maria Weaber
Hi Cheryl! You may have purchased the pattern and not logged into Ravelry. There should have been an email sent to you when purchased. Also, try checking “purchased” in your library to see if it’s there. If not, feel free to send me an email and I can see if I can add it to your library!
Haley
Hi Maria! This is the first blanket I’ve crocheted. I usually do animals and the like. Your pattern is so cute and I’ve already added more of your patterns to my to do list. I’m super excited for them. My biggest question so far, is do you block your squares? They’ve only curled a little so far but I’m wondering if they’ll straighten out when I assemble them and add the border? I also know nothing about blocking because I don’t normally crochet flat projects. Looking forward to your help.
Maria Weaber
They should all straighten out after you assemble them all together! If you’d like to block them before hand (some people do this so they can join them easily since they are all straight when you block them), you can simply take some pins and pin the squares in the shape you’d like them (you can do this on those foam puzzle piece mats for kids or a gardener knee pad) spray them with some water and once they dry they should be good to go!
