Crochet Gingerbread Ornament – Free Pattern

Crochet Gingerbread Ornament Pattern

Materials

Worsted weight yarn in brown, white, and black

G/4.00mm hook

(2) 6 mm safety eyes

Polyfil

Buttons (needle and thread to sew on OR hot glue)

Tapestry needle & Scissors

Notes

Beginning chain does not count as a stitch.

Dimensions: ~4” x 5”

Abbreviations (US terms)

Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, sc2tog = single crochet two together, sl st = slip stitch, st = stitch

Pattern

Use brown yarn.

Row 1: Ch 15, sc in second chain from hook and into remaining st across, turn
Row 2: Ch 1, sc across, turn
Row 3: repeat Row 2
Row 4: Ch 1, sl st into next 5 st, ch 1 sc into next 6 st, turn
Row 5: Ch 1, sc into next 6 st, turn
Row 6: Ch 1, 2sc, sc into next 4 st, 2sc, turn
Row 7: Ch 1, sc across, turn
Row 8-9: Repeat Row 7
Row 10: Ch 1, sc into next 4 st, turn
Row 11-13: Ch 1, sc across next 4 st, turn
Row 14: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc2tog
Fasten off.

That completes one leg. To make next leg, attach brown to Row 9 next to first leg
Follow Rows 10-14 above.
Turn the body so the feet are facing down and the arms are straight across.

Head

Attach brown to the 6th space in from the right.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc into next 4 st, turn
Row 2: Ch 1, 2sc in each st across, turn
Row 3-4: Ch 1, sc across, turn
Row 5: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc into next 4 st, sc2tog, turn
Row 6: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc into next 2 st, sc2tog
Fasten off.

Make 2 gingerbread. Embellish one of the gingerbread:

Attach safety eyes or create a french knot with black yarn and a tapestry needle.

Use black yarn and tapestry needle to sew on mouth.

Sew on buttons with needle and thread or glue them on with hot glue.

Assembly

Hold two sides of the gingerbread together, the embellishments facing outward on top.

Attach white yarn and single crochet around joining them together. Half way around, stuff lightly with polyfil. Continue to single crochet around and join to first single crochet. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Attach white yarn to top for hanging.
