Last year, I did a 12 Days of Christmas Ornaments event and it was so much fun! I knew I wanted to make ornaments this year so here is this little penguin – more ornaments to come!

Crochet Penguin Ornament Pattern
Materials:
Worsted weight yarn in blue, yellow, white, and red
G/4.00mm hook
(2) 6mm safety eyes
Polyfil
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Notes:
Beginning chain does not count as a stitch.
Finished penguin will measure roughly 4” in height.
Abbreviations: (US terms)
Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, sc2tog = single crochet two together, dc = double crochet, st = stitch(es)
Pattern
Head and Body
Use blue yarn.
Round 1: Magic ring, ch 1, 8 sc in ring, join to first sc (8)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2sc in each st around, join to first sc (16)
Round 3: Ch 1, *sc in next st, 2sc, repeat from * around, join to first sc (24)
Round 4-7: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join to first sc (24)
Round 8: Ch 1, *sc in next st, sc2tog, repeat from * around, join to first sc (16)
Round 9: Ch 1, sc2tog around, join to first sc (8)
Do not fasten off.
Attach safety eyes and embroider beak with yellow yarn and tapestry needle.
Attach eyes between Row 5 & 6 spacing them 3 stitches apart.
Sew beak between Row 6 & 7 across two stitches.
Stuff head with polyfil.
Round 10: Ch 1, 2sc in each st around, join to first sc (16)
Round 11: Ch 1, 2sc in each st around, join to first sc (32)
Round 12-18: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join to first sc (32)
Stuff the body with polyfil.
Round 19: Ch 1, sc2tog around, join to first sc (16)
Round 20: Ch 1, sc2tog around, join to first sc (8)
Finish stuffing with polyfil.
Fasten off and leave a tail.
Sew the opening closed. Weave in ends.
Wings
Use blue yarn
Row 1: Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn (4)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn (4)
Row 3: Ch 1, sc2tog across, turn (2)
Row 4: Ch 1, sc2tog (1)
Fasten off.
Make 2 wings, sew onto each side of the body.
Belly
Use white yarn.
Round 1: Magic ring, ch 1, 10sc in ring, join to first st (10)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2sc in next 3 st, 2dc in next 3 st, 2sc in next 4 st, join to first st (20)
Fasten off and leave long yarn tail to sew onto body.
Scarf
Use red yarn.
Row 1: Ch 50, dc in 3rd ch from hook and across (48)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Tie around penguin’s neck.
Attach yarn to the top of the head for hanging.
