Crochet Christmas Plushie Set
This cute crochet gingerbread man is part of a whole amigurumi plushie set I’m making for Christmas! He is one of four: Snowman, Santa, Elf, and Gingerbread Man. The snowman and Santa Claus crochet patterns are already available so be sure to check them out!
Quick Overview of Gingerbread Man Crochet Pattern
This crochet pattern uses blanket yarn so it is soft, quick, and easy to work up. I used a light brown colored yarn for the gingerbread man, white yarn for the “frosting”, and a bit of red yarn for the cheeks. The mouth uses black yarn – you can use a worsted weight yarn or black thread. You will also need stuffing and safety eyes to complete the gingerbread man.
Basic stitches are used to crochet the body, head, and arms. You will need to know how to single crochet and single crochet decrease. Sewing is minimal, the only thing you have to sew on are the arms as the body and head are made in one piece.
For the face and buttons, you will simply attach safety eyes, sew on mouth and cheeks, and sew on french knots for the buttons. If you need help with these steps, be sure to check out the video below.

Project Materials
Bernat Baby Blanket in Sand and White
Bernat Blanket Brights in RaceCar Red (This is for the cheeks only, you can use another yarn if preferred).
Small amount of black yarn (worsted weight) for mouth.
6.5 mm crochet hook
16mm safety eyes – safety eye kit on Amazon here
Polyfil/stuffing
Tapestry/Yarn needle and scissors
Crochet Pattern Notes
Beginning chain of each round does not count as a stitch.
Gingerbread is worked from the bottom up in one piece except for the hat and arms.
You can work in spiral rounds if preferred, use stitch markers to mark off first stitch in rounds.
Use invisible decreases for a cleaner finish. Simply work the single crochet two together in the pattern except working only in the front loops.

Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, sc2tog = single crochet two together, FLO = front loops only, st = stitch
Gingerbread Man Crochet Pattern
Gingerbread Body and Head
Start with brown color yarn.
Round 1: Magic ring, ch 1, 8sc in ring, join to first st (8)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2sc in each st around, join to first st (16)
Round 3: Ch 1, *sc in next st, 2sc in next st, repeat from * around, join to first st (24)
Round 4: Ch 1, *sc in next 2 st, 2sc in next st, repeat from * around, join to first st (32)
Change to white color yarn.
Round 5: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join to first st (32)
Change to brown color yarn.
Round 6-10: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join to first st (32)
Round 11: Ch 1, *sc in next 2 st, sc2tog over next 2 st, repeat from * around, join to first st (24)
Round 12: Ch 1, *sc in next st, sc2tog over next 2 st, repeat from * around, join to first st (16)
Use tapestry needle and white yarn to sew on French knots for buttons. Sew on opposite side of seam. Stuff body with polyfil.
Round 13: Ch 1, *sc2tog over next 2 st, repeat from * around, join to first st (8)
Round 14: Ch 1, 2sc in each st around, join to first st (16)
Round 15: Ch 1, 2sc in each st around, join to first st (32)
Round 16-21: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join to first st (32)
Add safety eyes between rows 20-21 about 3 st apart.
Sew on mouth with tapestry needle and black yarn on Row 18, centering it between the eyes.
Sew on French knots for the cheeks with tapestry needle and red yarn on each side of the mouth.
Change to white color yarn.
Round 22: Ch 1, *sc in next 2 st, sc2tog over next 2 st, repeat from * around, join to first st (24)
Change to brown color yarn.
Round 23: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join to first st (24)
Stuff with polyfil.
Round 24: Ch 1, *sc in next st, sc2tog over next 2 st, repeat from * around, join to first st (16)
Round 25: Ch 1, *sc2tog over next 2 st, repeat from * around, join to first st (8)
Fasten off and leave long tail for sewing. Finish stuffing with polyfil.
Sew up hole with tapestry needle. Sew through FLO for a cleaner finish.
Gingerbread Man Arms
Start with brown yarn.
Round 1: Magic ring, ch 1, 5sc in ring, join to first st (5)
Change to white yarn.
Round 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join to first st (5)
Change to brown yarn.
Round 3-4: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join to first st (5)
Fasten off and leave long tail for sewing. Make two arms.
Sew arms onto rows 9-10 on each side of the body.
