Simple Crochet Snowman
I love the idea of simple yet cute crochet designs so I whipped up this adorable snowman garland! The snowmen are made with just a few rounds of crochet.
I did double up on the head and body so it would be a bit more sturdy than just a single piece of crochet. It also helps to hide the back of the embellished face.
Assembling Garland
I wanted to add more texture and depth to my garland so I added wooden beads in between the crocheted snowmen. I used twine to string everything together, which I think will hold up very well.
I got this kit off of Amazon that includes the wooden beads, twine, needles, and scissors. I have a lot of smaller beads leftover that I can use for a different project or craft.
If you’d like to keep this a strictly yarn project, you can also crochet a long chain to attach the snowmen together. I would slip stitch on the top of each snowman in between the chains. You can determine how far apart you want your snowmen to be so it will hang appropriately where you need it to.

Crochet Pattern Notes
Make 7 snowmen (4 with green scarves and 3 with red scarves).
Crochet more or less snowmen for longer or shorter garland.
If you don’t want to use the wood beads for the garland, you can crochet them together by making chains between each snowman and slip stitching to the top of each snowman.
Each snowman measures roughly 4.5” tall
Entire garland measures 66” in width.
Abbreviations: (US terms)
Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, st = stitchPattern
Snowman Head
Use white yarn.
Round 1: Magic ring, ch 1, 10sc in ring, join to first st (10)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2sc in each st around, join to first st (20)
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, 2sc in next st, *sc in next st, 2sc in next st, repeat from * around, join to first st (30)
Fasten off. Make two.
Embellish face on one circle with black and orange yarn with a tapestry needle using photo as a guide.
Make eyes by making French knots (video tutorial below).
Sew on nose with orange yarn starting from the center and going one stitch across.
Next we will crochet the circles together.
Hold circles together, right sides facing out and the embellished face facing you. Working into Round 3, insert hook through both circles, attach white yarn, chain 1 and single crochet together all the way around, join to first stitch. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Snowman Body
Use white yarn.
Round 1: Magic ring, ch 1, 10hdc in ring, join to first st (10)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2hdc in each st around, join to first st (20)
Round 3: Ch 1, hdc in first st, 2hdc in next st, *hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st, repeat from * around, join to first st (30)
Fasten off. Make two.
Crochet circles together similarly to the head (directions above) except leave the last 3 stitches ‘open’ and do not crochet them together. Fasten off and leave tail for sewing. (We will be sewing the head onto the body.)
Scarf
Use green/red yarn.
Row 1: Ch 32, dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Assembly
Put snowman head ‘into’ body where 3 stitches were left open. Use tail of body to sew on head with a tapestry needle.
Fold scarf in half around neck of snowman, take the tail of the scarf closest to you and pull it through the back tail of the scarf near the neck between two of the stitches.
Use needle and twine to thread beads and snowman to assemble the garland.
To thread on the snowman, I inserted the needle on just the back circle of the head near the scarf.
I threaded my beads/snowman in the following order:
20mm, 16mm, 14mm, 12mm, 14mm, 16mm,
20mm, 16mm, 14mm, 12mm, 14mm, 16mm,
20mm, 16mm, 14mm, 12mm, 14mm, 16mm,
*snowman, 16mm, 14mm, 12mm, 14mm, 16mm, 20mm,
16mm, 14mm, 12mm, 14mm, 16mm, repeat from * 6 more times,
20mm, 16mm, 14mm, 12mm, 14mm, 16mm, 20mm
Make a knotted loop on either end for hanging.
