Crochet Snowman Coaster Pattern Overview

You will need 100% cotton yarn for this project and a 4.00 mm crochet hook to make these cute little snowman coasters. I used I Love This Yarn! but any worsted weight, 100% cotton yarn will work.

The base of the pattern only uses the half double crochet stitch which will be worked in the round.

For the border of the snowman coaster, we will use modified bobble stitches. Details on how to complete this stitch is included in the free pattern below. This is where we will make a section of the border part of the snowman’s scarf.

You can choose any yarn color for the scarf. I used multiple colors: blue, green, red, and yellow.

For the snowman’s face, you will be sewing it on with a yarn needle and yarn. The eyes are made with french knots which the pattern includes a link to a video tutorial if you are not familiar with this sewing stitch.

Yarn for Crochet Coasters

Hands down, I recommend using 100% cotton yarn when crocheting coasters. Not only is cotton an absorbent material, it will hold up over time, will not get fuzzy/pill, and gives you an overall better look.

Cotton yarn will absorb any condensation from drinks or accidental spills. Acrylic yarn is not absorbent and would become a sopping piece of material that will not properly protect the surface you are using the coasters on.

As far as durability, 100% cotton yarn will hold up if you need to wash your coasters and will not pill and fuzz as quickly as acrylic yarn would.

The stitch definition with cotton yarn is also much better than acrylic yarn. The stitches look more crisp, clean, and defined.

See the photos as a guide for making the snowman’s face.

Use black yarn and tapestry needle to make French knots for the eyes.

Use orange yarn and tapestry needle to sew on the carrot nose. I went over the line for the nose two times.
