Crochet Bean Stitch Hat Free Pattern

Free Crochet Bean Stitch Hat Pattern

Materials

Worsted weight yarn in ivory

6.00 mm crochet hook

Tapestry needle

Scissors

Pom pom (optional)

Pattern Notes

Beginning chain does not count as a stitch.

Hat will be made starting with the brim then working on the body of the hat. Once the body of the hat is finished, it will be sewn closed at the top.

Finished size is for an adult. Fits ~21” Head circumference.

Bean Stitch: insert hook into st, YO, pull up a loop, *YO, insert hook into same st, YO, pull up a loop, repeat from * one more time, pull through all 6 loops on your hook, ch 1

Gauge: 1” ~ 4 st across in single crochet

Abbreviations: (US terms)
Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, sc2tog = single crochet two together, st = stitch, sk = skip, YO = yarn over

Pattern

Brim

Row 1: Ch 9, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn

Row 2-60: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn

Sc the first and last row together, turn inside out so the seam is on the inside.

Body of Hat

Turn your work so you are working on the edge of the brim.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc into the side of each row of the brim, join to first st

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, *sk 1, bean st, repeat from * around, sc in last st, join to first st

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join to first st

Repeat Row 2-3 two times.

Repeat Row 2.

Row 9: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc2tog over next 2 st, *sc in next st, sc2tog over next 2 st, repeat from * around, join to first st

Row 10: Ch 1, sc in first st, *sk 1, bean st, repeat from * around, sc in last st, join to first st

Row 11: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc2tog over next 2 st, *sc in next st, sc2tog over next 2 st, repeat from * around, join to first st

Row 12: Ch 1, sc in first st, *sk 1, bean st, repeat from * around, sc in last st, join to first st

Row 13: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join to first st

Row 14: Ch 1, sc in first st, *sk 1, bean st, repeat from * around, sc in last st, join to first st

Row 15: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join to first st

Row 16: Ch 1, sc in first st, *sk 1, bean st, repeat from * around, sc in last st, join to first st

Row 17: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join to first st

Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing. Use yarn tail and tapestry needle to whip stitch outer loops of the last row, pull tight and knot. Weave in ends.

Add pom pom.
