Free Crochet Raccoon Ornament Pattern
Materials
Worsted weight yarn in light gray, dark gray, white, black, red
4.00 mm crochet hook
6mm safety eyes (2)
Polyfil/stuffing
Stitch Marker
Tapestry needle and Scissors
Ribbon or string (optional)
Pattern Notes
When making the sc2tog, work in the front loops only for a cleaner finish.
Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round to make it easier to find the first stitch of the round when joining.
Abbreviations: (US terms)
Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet, st = stitch, sc2tog = single crochet two together, sc3tog = single crochet three together
Pattern
Use light gray yarn.
Round 1: Magic ring, ch 1, 8sc in ring, join to first st (8)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2sc in each st around, join to first st (16)
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, 2sc in next st, *sc in next st, 2sc in next st, repeat from * around, join to first st (24)
Round 4: Ch 1, sc in first 2 st, 2sc in next st, *sc in next 2 st, 2sc in next st, repeat from * around, join to first st (32)
Round 5-10: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join to first st (32)
Round 11: Ch 1, *sc in next 2 st, sc2tog over next 2 st, repeat from * around, join to first st (24)
Round 12: Ch 1, *sc in next st, sc2tog over next 2 st, repeat from * around, join to first st (16)
Round 13: Ch 1, *sc2tog over next 2 st, repeat from * around, join to first st (8)
Stuff body with polyfil.
Round 14: Ch 1, 2sc in each st around, join to first st (16)
Change to white yarn.
Round 15: Ch 1, 2sc in each st around, join to first st (32)
Round 16-18: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join to first st (32)
Change to light gray yarn.
Round 19-22: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join to first st (32)
DO NOT fasten off.
Use dark gray to make spots around eyes:
Round 1: Magic ring, ch 1, 6sc in ring, join to first st. Fasten off and leave tail for attaching. Make two spots.
Add safety eyes to dark gray spots on the outer edge. Put between rows 20 + 21. The spots should lay between rows 19-22. Sew on spots.
Embroider nose with black yarn and tapestry needle.
Continue to finish head with light gray yarn.
Round 23-24: Ch 1, *sc2tog over next 2 st, repeat from * around, join to first st
Stuff with polyfil.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Ears
Use dark gray yarn.
Row 1: Ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each st across, turn
Row 2: Ch 1, sc3tog
Fasten off and leave a long tail. Make two ears. Sew onto head.
Paws
Use dark gray yarn.
Round 1: Magic ring, ch 1, 8 sc in ring, join to first st
Fasten off and leave tail for sewing.
Make two paws and sew onto body.
Scarf
Use red yarn.
Row 1: Ch 40, dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across
Fasten off and weave in ends. Secure scarf around neck by pulling one end between stitches. Add ribbon, string, or yarn on the top of the head for hanging.
