I rounded up all the crochet ornaments along with the free crochet patterns I have on my blog so you can see them all in one place! Grab your yarn and a crochet hook and pick a few of these patterns to make for this holiday season.
Since these crochet Christmas decorations are small, they will be great for using up some of your left over skeins of yarn. That’s a win in my book! I used worsted weight yarn for almost all of my ornaments but cotton yarn is also a good option if you also have that in your stash.
ALSO, you don’t have to only use them for decorating your tree. Use them to decorate a gift! Instead of a bow, attach an ornament that doubles as a gift.

Crochet Ornaments Tips and Tricks
All of my crochet Christmas ornaments above are made with basic stitches (several of them require only knowing the single crochet stitch). The instructions are easy to follow and many of them are suitable for beginners as well.
If you have crocheted amigurumi, these should be especially easy crochet Christmas decorations for you to make!
For the ornament patterns, I used yarn to create the loops but you can also use twine or string to add a bit more of a rustic look to your ornaments.
A bunch of the ornaments also use safety eyes as embellishment but you can use beads or add the faces on with yarn. French knots would be a good option for eyes.
Materials for Crochet Ornaments
These are great stash busters especially if you have an abundance of medium weight 4 yarn. I would suggest sticking to a worsted weight yarn vs a DK or bulky yarn. Of course, feel free to experiment but this will change the size of the ornament.
Along with the worsted weight yarn, be sure to use a smaller hook size so there are no holes or gaps in the ornaments as most of them contain polyfil that you want to stay inside the ornament. A 4.00mm crochet hook is used for most of these tree ornaments, but if you tend to crochet fairly loose then you may want to use an even smaller crochet hook size. The patterns do not have a gauge to meet, as the size of the ornament is not crucial.
Along with yarn in different colors and a crochet hook, you will also want a tapestry needle, scissors, polyfil/filling, stitch markers, safety eyes, and buttons.
