Entrelac crochet is the perfect way to try out tunisian crochet with just a regular crochet hook – no new tools involved! This entrelac crochet tutorial will visually guide you step by step so you can create your own blanket along with learning a new technique.
This was a new technique for me to try and my first go at learning any sort of tunisian crochet. I thoroughly enjoyed learning this stitch especially since I could use the crochet hooks I already had on hand. I found the process up pulling up loops and then pulling through loops to be very rhythmic and relaxing. You will see what I mean when you get started!
I hope you give this pattern a go even if you are making a small sample. I think you will really enjoy learning something new and be proud of having another crochet skill to have in your back pocket.

Overview
This crochet video tutorial shows you step by step how to make an entrelac blanket. The video tutorial gives you the option to make either a rectangle or square shaped blanket. The finished size of the blanket is up to you, but I do provide the dimensions along with yarn amounts and details for the size I made.
The blanket will be made in a corner to corner fashion. Using a corner to corner method allows you to create straight edges for the finished blanket without having to go back and fill in any gaps.
The nature of this stitch does tend to make our work curl up. This is not a desired result, but I found adding a thick border helped straighten out any edges that wanted to curl up. I’m not a fan of blocking or doing anything “extra” for a blanket – so don’t worry! As long as you make a thick border around your finished work, you can skip the blocking.
For this blanket, I used 4 different yarn colors but there is ample room for customization here. You can use just two colors to create a checker board affect or any other amount of yarn colors to create a pattern you like.

Materials
For this project, you will need worsted weight yarn, a 6.5 mm crochet hook, and scissors. Typically, you would use a tunisian crochet hook for tunisian crochet, but this technique only requires a regular crochet hook.
For the blanket shown (42″ x 54″) you will need the following:
- 2 skeins Big Twist in Light Rose
- 2 skeins Big Twist in Ivory
- 2 skeins Big Twist in Olive Drab
- 2 skeins Big Twist in Varsity Navy Blue
- 6.5 mm crochet hook
- Tapestry needle + Scissors

Notes: The blanket I made is roughly 42″ x 54″, which makes a good lapghan sized blanket.
To make that size:
28 “squares” for the width 36 “squares” for the length
3 border rows in olive 3 border rows in navy blue
