Yarn Weights
Yarn weights tend to differ even within their category. For my sample, I used a bulky category 5 yarn but in the materials you will see that I listed worsted weight/category 4 for the yarn to be used.
This is because the “bulky” yarn I used was actually a “thinner” bulky yarn and more closely matched a worsted weight.
The yarn I used was a hand dyed yarn from one of my favorite yarn dyer, Steph, over at Dover Street Suppply Co. This yarn was a dream to work up and the color is gorgeous!
Now I know hand dyed yarn is a luxury and is not obtainable to all. I think most worsted weight yarns will work for this hat – just be sure to check your gauge!
Yarns I recommend would be Red Heart with Love, I Love This Yarn!, Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice, or Paintbox Yarns. These yarns are a nice worsted weight yarns that are on the ‘thicker’ side and would match the yarn I used nicely.

Post Stitches
Post stitches are basically worked around stitches from the previous row. Each stitch can be seen as a “post” and you work around them, either putting your crochet hook in front or in back of the post depending on the stitch.
These stitches tend to make a thicker fabric which is great when you want something warm!
Using both back and front post stitches creates a wonderful squishy texture which is what I did for this crochet hat pattern.
