The Foodie Themed Blanket will be crocheted together as a crochet along starting January 14, 2024. Find all the information below!

  • Purchase the ad-free, printable/download PDF for the entire blanket on Etsy or Ravelry.
  • View the parts of the Crochet Along at the end of this post. It will be a running list of what patterns with pattern links to complete each part of the CAL along with the dates.
  • PIN it to your boards for later.
crochet food themed granny square blanket pattern

The Foodie Themed Crochet Blanket CAL will start January 14, 2024 and run for a total of 9 weeks. This gives you plenty of time to tackle this large blanket without getting overwhelmed.

Each week, we will be crocheting 8 granny squares and one of the food appliques. Once all of those are complete, we will finish off week 9 with joining the squares and completing the border.

I am planning to have a video tutorial to go along with each part of the written pattern. For those buying the PDF for the entire written crochet pattern, the video tutorials will only be released weekly along with the crochet along.

Below you will find all the materials you need to complete this project as well as an FAQ.

Materials for Foodie Crochet Blanket

I have to apologize in advanced because the main color of this blanket I used does not show up on the LoveCrafts website in the US. I started making this blanket a year ago and had to push the release when it was complete.

I will also be listing yarn substitutes as well as amounts of worsted weight yarn for each color if you want to work from your stash.

Yarn + Hook Sizes

Paintbox Yarn Simply Aran

10 skeins Champagne White (this color does not seem to be available on their site anymore, I would substitute for the Paper White color OR any other worsted weight yarn that is a creamy off white like the color of the squares the food appliques are on)

3 skeins Rose Red

3 skeins Buttercup Yellow

2 skeins Sailor Blue

2 skeins Grass Green

1 skein Soft Fudge

1 skein Coffee Bean

1 skein Light Caramel

1 skein white

6.00 mm crochet hook

4.00 mm crochet hook

Tapestry needle

Scissors

Yarn Substitutions #1

Red Heart Super Saver (364 yards per skein)

*I picked these colors based off what I saw online, you can pick similar colors/what you feel goes best together.

6 skeins Aran

2 skeins Bright Yellow

2 skeins Hot Red

1 skein Paddy Green

1 skein Royal

1 skein Buff

1 skein Coffee

1 skein Cafe Latte

1 skein White

Other Yarn Substitution

You can use any kind of worsted weight yarn for this project. If you mix/match brands, I suggest you compare to make sure they are about the same thickness since worsted weight yarns can vary from brand to brand.

Here’s the list of about how much you need of each color:

2,000 yards of a creamy off-white

600 yards bright red

600 yards bright yellow

400 yards kelly green

400 yards blue

less than 200 yards of a dark brown (used for the “chocolate icing” on the donut)

less than 200 yards of a soft brown (this will be used for the pretzel appliques)

less than 200 yards of white

200 yards of a beige color (used for the buns of hotdog/burger, base of donut, pizza crust)

FAQ

What is a CAL?

It stands for Crochet Along. Like minded crocheters work on the same project in the same timespan where we can chat, ask questions, and share our progress! We keep each other motivated and inspired.

When does the CAL start?

This Foodie Themed Blanket CAL will start Sunday January 14, 2024 and run for a total of 9 weeks.

How big is the blanket?

The finished size of this blanket is 60″ x 60″. It’s a good size throw blanket for your sofa/couch.

What if I can’t keep up with the crochet along?

Don’t worry if you get behind. You can always catch up or complete it at a later date at your convenience. All of the patterns I publish on my blog for free will remain up indefinitely.

Is this free or do I have to buy the pattern?

This crochet along is absolutely free, but you will have the option to purchase the ad-free download/printable PDF for the entire blanket once the crochet along has started. It will be a discounted price the first couple of days it is released.

Will there be video tutorials?

Yes, each week a new part of the pattern is released I will include a video tutorial to go along with the written crochet pattern.

Can I use DK yarn?

I don’t recommend it, but you can! Because DK yarn is a bit thinner, you will either end up with a smaller blanket or you can add a round or two to the granny squares which will require you to have more yarn than listed above.

Crochet Along

For attaching the appliques, this tutorial shows you how to sew it on with yarn with a clean backing. You can also attach with invisible thread, fabric glue, or hot glue. I have had success using hot glue but I use my blankets for display purposes only.
