Crochet Waffle Stitch
If you are looking for a crochet stitch that has loads of texture and squishiness, the waffle crochet stitch is hands down the best stitch to try! It quite literally looks like a waffle and the 3D texture makes such a delicious fabric.
Whether you are a beginner crocheter or experienced crocheter, this crochet stitch is very digestible. You will need to know how to crochet the following stitches to complete this project: chain, double crochet stitches, front and back post double crochets. That’s it!
Once you complete the first few rows, it will be a two row repeat. Once you get the hang of the two rows along with the stitch combination for each row, it will be become a very mindless and relaxing project to work on. I made my blanket all one solid color but you can also change colors to make a striped blanket.

Tips for the Crochet Waffle Stitch Blanket
I used a larger hook to make the fabric more flowy and cozy. Be sure to make a gauge swatch to match the gauge in the pattern which is about 13 stitches x 9 rows for a 4″ x 4″ square. If you are not familiar with gauge, you can learn how to match gauge here.
The pattern below here on my blog is about a throw size. I’ve also included 8 different sizes in my paid PDF version (which includes yarn amounts, beginning chain amounts, and row counts) but you can also make this blanket a larger size or smaller size to your liking by simply adding or subtracting the amount of beginning chains and rows.
The stitch multiple for the waffle stitch is 3+1. That means you can make your starting chain as long as you want as long as it is a multiple of 3 and then add 1 more.
The crochet waffle stitch is a bit of a yarn eater, which basically means it uses more yarn than the average crochet stitch. However, I wouldn’t say it is double the amount than an average blanket. You will need a bit more but the amount of stretch and squishiness you get from this stitch is 100% worth it.
