This crochet dolphin applique is a part of a bigger ocean- themed project that I have on my blog. The Ocean Themed Granny Square afghan is completely free to follow on my blog and is comprised of granny square plus 15 different ocean-themed appliques (including this jelly fish!) that are attached to the squares.
Free Crochet Dolphin Applique Pattern
Materials
Worsted weight yarn in light blue
G/4.00 mm crochet hook
6mm safety eyes
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Abbreviations (US terms):
Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, sc2tog = single crochet two together, st(es) = stitch(es), sl st = slip stitch
Pattern
Body
Row 1: Ch 15, sc into 2nd ch from hook and into next 5 st, 2 sc into each of the next 4 st, sc into each of last 4 st, turn
Row 2: Ch 1, hdc into next 16 st, turn (there should be 2 st left that are not worked into in the row)
Row 3: Ch 1, sc into next 11 st, sl st into last 5 st, do not fast off.
Turn your work 90 degrees to work on the tail.
Tail

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn (3)
Row 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc in next st, 2 sc in last st, turn (5)
Row 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sl st in next 3 st, 2 sc in last st, fasten off
Top Fin
Attach yarn to the 7th st counting backwards from Row 3 (see photo below)
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in next 3 st, turn
Row 2: Ch 1, sc2tog over next 2 st, sc in last st, turn
Row 3: Ch 1, sc2tog over next 2 st, sc onto the side (see photo be low), fasten off.
Bottom Fin
Attach yarn to under the body, counting 7 st back (see photo)
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in next 2 st, turn
Row 2: Ch 1, sc2tog over next 2 st, fasten off
Eye
Attach safety eye to Row 2, 2 st to the left.
