Free Crochet Seahorse Applique Pattern
Materials
Worsted weight yarn in mustard – a dark and a light
G/4.00 mm crochet hook
F/3.75mm crochet hook
6mm safety eye (or black yarn)
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Notes
Picot st: (sc, ch 3, sc) in same st
Abbreviations (US terms):
Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet, sc2tog = single crochet two together, st = stitch, sl st = slip stitch
Pattern
Head
Use 4.00 mm crochet hook and light mustard yarn.
Round 1: Magic ring, ch 1, 8 sc into ring, join to first sc
Round 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, 2sc in next st, *sc in next st, 2sc in next st, repeat from * around, join to first st, ch 3, dc in same st as ch 3, fasten off.
Body
Use G hook and light mustard yarn.
Attach yarn 2 st to the left of the nose. The nose should point to the left.
Row 1: Ch 20, sc in 2nd ch from hook and into next 10 st, hdc in next 2 st, dc in next 2 st, hdc in next 2 st, sc in next 2 st, join onto the head right next to where you attached the yarn for the body, ch 1, turn your work to continue to work on the body
Row 2: sc into next 10 st, sl st into next 2 st, fasten off.
Outer Ridges of Body
Use 3.75mm crochet hook and dark mustard color yarn.
Attach yarn to the last sc of Row 2.
Row 1: Ch 1, picot st in same st, sl st into next st, *picot into next st, sl st into next st, repeat from * all the way up the body and around the head until you are 2 st away from the nose. Fasten off.
Fin
Use 3.75mm crochet hook and dark mustard color yarn.
Row 1: Ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next st, ch 1, turn
Row 2: Ch 1, sc2tog, fasten off.
Leave tail and sew onto body of seahorse.
Eye
Attach safety eye to head.
OR
Use black yarn and tapestry needle to sew on a French knot.
