Free Crochet Shark Applique Pattern

Materials

Worsted weight yarn in gray, white, and black

G/4.00 mm crochet hook

6mm safety eye

Tapestry needle

Scissors

Notes

Abbreviations (US terms):

Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, sc2tog = single crochet two together, dc = double crochet, sl st = slip stitch, st = stitch

Pattern

Body

Use gray yarn.

Row 1: Ch 2, sc into 2nd ch from hook, turn

Row 2: Ch 1, 2sc in first st, turn

Row 3: Ch 1, 2sc in next 2 st, turn

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn

Row 5: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 2 st, 2sc in last st, turn

Row 6-13: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn

Row 14: Ch 1, sc2tog over first 2 st, sc in next 2 st, sc2tog over next 2 st, turn

Row 15-16: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn

Row 17: Ch 1, sc2tog over first 2 st, sc2tog over last 2 st, turn

Row 18: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn

Row 19: Ch 2, (2dc, ch 3, 2dc) in first st, (sl st, ch 2, 2dc, ch 3, sl st) into next st, fasten off.

The tail should be facing to the left and the head will be facing the right.

Top Fin

Attach gray yarn 8 st back from the head.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in next 3 st, turn

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn

Row 3: Ch 2, sc2tog, fasten off

Side Fin

Use gray yarn. This will be made separately from the body then sewn on.

Row 1: Ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next st, turn

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn

Row 3: Ch 1, sc2tog, fasten off. Leave tail for sewing and sew onto body.

Underbelly

Use white yarn.

Attach white yarn 3 st away from the tail under the body.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc across until there are 2 st left, sl st, fasten off.

Face

Attach eye between rows 4 + 5 or use back yarn and tapestry needle to sew on the eye.

Use tapestry needle and black yarn to sew on mouth and gills.
