Free Crochet Puffer Fish Pattern
Materials
Worsted weight yarn in taupe, light brown, mustard, and black
G/4.00 mm crochet hook
6mm safety eye
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Pattern Notes
Picot stitch: (sc, ch 2, sc) all in one stitch
Abbreviations (US terms):
Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, sc2tog = single crochet two together, st = stitch
Pattern
Body
Use taupe color yarn.
Round 1: Magic ring, ch 1, 10hdc in ring, join to first st
Round 2: Ch 1, 2hdc in each st around, join to first st
Round 3: Ch 1, 2hdc in first st, hdc in next st, *2hdc in next st, hdc in next st, repeat from * around, join to first st
Change to light brown yarn.
Round 4: Ch 1, *picot, sl st in next 2 st, repeat from * around until there are 3 st left, fasten off.
Use tapestry needle and light brown yarn to sew on upside down V’s on the body for the spikes. Leave the space open where there is not picot stitches, that will be left for the face.
Tail
Use mustard yarn.
Attach yarn between the 5th and 6th spikes (count from the top of the head and around.)
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in first st and next st, turn
Row 2: Ch 1, 2sc in each st across, turn
Row 3: Ch 1, sc across, fasten off
Fin
Use mustard yarn.
This is made separately then sewn onto the body.
Row 1: Ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook and next st, turn
Row 2: Ch 1, sc2tog, fasten off and leave yarn tail. Sew onto body.
Face
Attach safety eye and sew on mouth with black yarn and tapestry needle.
