The griddle stitch is so easy to crochet and gives you a beautiful, subtle texture for your project. You just need to know the basic stitches (chain, single crochet, and double crochet). Below you will find the written pattern for this versatile crochet stitch.

I have used this easy crochet stitch for multiple crochet projects. It’s my go to when I want to add a little texture but use only simple stitches for something quick and mindless.

Here are some free crochet patterns I have on my blog that uses this stitch:

Notes

Beginning chain multiple: 2

The griddle stitch alternates single and double crochets across the row. It also alternates after each row (single crochets will be on top of the double crochets of the previous row and vice versa).

Abbreviations (US terms):

Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, dc = double crochet, st = stitch

Row 1: Begin with any even number of chains, dc into 3rd ch from hook, sc in next ch, *dc in next ch, sc in next ch, repeat from * across, turn

Row 2: Ch 2, dc in first st, sc in next st, *dc in next st, sc in next st, repeat from * across, turn

Repeat Row 2
