Materials for Crochet Coasters

For crochet coasters in general, 100% cotton yarn is a must! It will absorb any condensation from your drink and will protect your surfaces from warm drinks.

I used I Love This Cotton! which is 100% cotton yarn that is worsted weight (medium 4 yarn). Personally, this is one of my personal favorite cotton yarns because it is so soft. It’s actually hard to believe it is 100% cotton because it’s nothing like the other 100% cotton yarns I’ve used before. It also holds up well. I still have coasters I made two years ago with this yarn that I still use.

For the crochet hook, I used a 4.00 mm or G hook. It’s a bit of a smaller hook size than what you would typically use for worsted weight yarn. We want to be sure the end result has no holes or gaps when making the coasters.

Additionally, for the whip cream center of these pumpkin pie coasters, I just hot glued them on. You can also use fabric glue if you’d like. If you don’t have either of those options handy then you can sew them on as well! Here is a tutorial that shows you how to sew on appliques which will be helpful if you don’t want your sewing to show up on the back of these coasters.
