Halloween Crochet Pillow Set + Blanket

I most recently crocheted a Halloween blanket that was inspired by a set of Halloween pillows I crocheted and designed a few years ago. They were 4 square pillows comprised of a pumpkin, Frankenstein, black cat, and a ghost.

I decided to opt for a vampire face instead of a ghost because I thought it would add more color and be a fun new face to design! Of course, I then had to make a matching vampire pillow to go with the blanket as well. You can find the free pattern for the Halloween blanket shown above here.

Free Crochet Vampire Pillow Pattern

Materials

Big Twist in Lilac, Black, and White

J/6.00 mm crochet hook

G/4.00 mm crochet hook

Pillow insert 14” x 14” (or stuffing)

Scissors and Tapestry needle

Pattern Notes

Beginning chain of each row does not count as a stitch.

Vampire face and the front portion of hair will be made separately from the two square pillows panels. Face will be attached to front panel, then both panels will be crocheted together.

Dimensions: 14” x 14”

Abbreviations: (US terms)

Ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, dc = double crochet, sc2tog = single crochet two together, hdc2tog = half double crochet two together, hdc3tog = half double crochet three together, st = stitch

Pattern

Panel One

Use lilac yarn and 6.00mm crochet hook.

Row 1: Ch 44, dc into 3rd ch from hook, sc in next st, *dc in next st, sc in next st, repeat from * across, turn (42)

Row 2: Ch 2, dc in first st, sc in next st, *dc in next st, sc in next st, repeat from * across, turn (42)

Repeat Row 2 until you have a total of 34 rows.

Fasten off.

Panel Two

Use lilac yarn and 6.00mm crochet hook.

Row 1: Ch 44, dc into 3rd ch from hook, sc in next st, *dc in next st, sc in next st, repeat from * across, turn (42)

Row 2: Ch 2, dc in first st, sc in next st, *dc in next st, sc in next st, repeat from * across, turn (42)

Repeat Row 2 until you have a total of 28 rows.

Change to black yarn.

Repeat Row 2 for another 6 rows.

Fasten off.

Hair

Use black yarn and 6.00 mm crochet hook.

Row 1: Ch 43, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn (42)

Row 2-3: Ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn

Row 4: Ch 1, hdc in next 5 st, turn

Row 5: Ch 1, hdc2tog over first 2 st, hdc in remaining 3 st, turn

Row 6: Ch 1, hdc2tog over first 2 st, hdc2tog over last 2 st

Fasten off.

Attach black yarn 13 st over from first hair line point. You will now work on the middle hairline point.

Row 1: Ch 1, hdc in next 8 st, turn

Row 2: Ch 1, hdc2tog over first 2 st, hdc in next 4 st, hdc2tog over first 2 st, turn

Row 3: Ch 1, hdc2tog across, turn

Row 4: Ch 1, hdc3tog

Fasten off.

Attach black yarn 13 st from the middle point of the hair line. You will now work on the last hairline point.

Row 1: Ch 1, hdc in next 5 st, turn

Row 2: Ch 1, hdc in next 3 st, hdc2tog over last 2 st, turn

Row 3: Ch 1, hdc2tog over first 2 st, hdc2tog over last 2 st, turn

Row 4: Ch 1, sc across entire hairline. Fasten off

Eyes

Use white yarn and 4.00mm crochet hook.

Round 1: Magic ring, ch 2, 10dc in ring, join to first st

Round 2: Ch 2, 2dc in each st around, join to first st

Fasten off. Make two.

Use black yarn and 4.00mm crochet hook.

Round 1: Magic ring, ch 1, 10 hdc in ring, join to first st

Fasten off. Make two.

Attach black circles to white circles of the eyes.

Teeth

Use white yarn and 4.00mm crochet hook.

Row 1: Ch 5, sc in 4th ch from hook and each ch across, turn

Row 2: Ch 1, sc2tog over first 2 st, sc2tog over last 2 st, turn

Row 3: Ch 1, sc2tog, fasten off

Make two teeth.

Assembly

*I found it easiest to attach the hairline to the front panel by first crocheting it together along with the front and back panels around the edges. I held all three pieces together and single crocheted around (3sc in the corners) just for the hair piece first. Then I secured the bottom edge of the hairline just to the first panel then continued to attach the other parts of the vampire face before crocheting together the rest of the pillow panels together with lilac.

Attach vampire face pieces to panel one/front panel using a tapestry needle and yarn. The front panel is all lilac. The back panel is lilac and black – the black part being at the top.

Use black yarn and a tapestry needle to sew on the eye brows and mouth.

Hold both panels together and single crochet them together with the 6.00 mm crochet hook, making 3 sc in each corner. Change colors as needed. 

Insert pillow or stuffing before completely closing up the pillow cover. 

Fasten off and weave in ends.
